Students received an overview about the NSBRI and its mission to conduct biomedical research to support development and exploration of space and
enhancing life on Earth as a result of advances in human knowledge and technology.
HASSE students had the opportunity of visiting the NSBRI (National Space Biomedical Institute). Chief Scientist and Associative Director, Dr. Graham B. Scott, took the students on an extensive tour of the facilities. Dr. Scott has been with the NSBRI since October 2012 where he has been responsible for advancing the science, career development and communications activities of the Institute. Students received an overview about the NSBRI and its mission to conduct biomedical research to support development and exploration of space and enhancing life on Earth as a result of advances in human knowledge and technology.
After Dr. Scott’s overview, students were joined by Dr. Leroy Chiao, NSBRI User Panel member, former NASA astronaut and International Space Station Commander. He spoke to the students about what life on the ISS was like. Dr. Chiao then showed a video documenting the entire process from the beginning of his trip until he came back to Earth. Dr. Chiao and Dr. Scott then answered questions regarding the Genome Project, current projects regarding space and future human spaceflight and possible life on Mars.
